Losing out on a second chance? You’ve been struggling with the potter!
I believe most Christians are aware of the story in Jeremiah 1:1-6. It is a story that reflects the mercy of God profoundly, proving that He is willing to give us a second chance.
In the story, God instructed Prophet Jeremiah to go to a pottery workshop to receive instruction. The prophet promptly obeyed. In the pottery shop, the prophet saw a potter working at the wheels, trying to make a clay vessel. Somehow, it did not quite work out and the potter could not really make what he set out to make. The potter simply crumbled the chunk of clay and went on to shape it into another thing. Later, God told the prophet that in like manner, He could re-make and redirect his children who may have somehow missed their purposes in life, thereby giving them second chances. This is indeed a story of hope for anyone seeking a second chance in life, or a new beginning!
I must add something though: a human being is not quite like a chunk of clay. Clay is lifeless and inanimate, while a human being have life and have will power! The clay just sits there and waits for the potter's whims; a human being finds it hard to just sit there and wait for the whims of his own potter. A human being struggles, squirms, fidgets, and complains; or may even walk away from the potter’s wheel! Yes, a person may consciously or subconsciously refuse to allow the potter (God) do His remolding work!
There is someone reading this who knows that s/he is not
behaving like clay. You know it! You have been struggling with the potter! You
are not willing to let go of your self-constructed aspirations and ego. You've been resisting devine directions. You've been going when God's been saying 'stay.' You've been saying 'yes' to what God is saying 'no' to.
Friends, you are most likely reading this because the Lord is mercifully trying to show you why you are missing your second chance opportunities. Your refusal to act like clay is the reason for your mess. Repent. NOW!
There is a popular hymn in Church titled ‘Have thine Own way Lord”. I like the lines that say: “Mold me and make me after thine will While I am waiting, yielded and still.” Just go ahead and pray a prayer of surrender, then act like a surrendered child.
