HOW TO TRULY RULE YOUR WORLD
Psalm 2 is a celebration of dominion. King David had gained dominion over the heathen nations around Israel, but these nations were beginning to make efforts to regain their freedom which would mean the return of attacks on Israel. In this Psalm, David presents the matter to God and receives assurances that the dominion which God had given him would not be compromised. In fact, it would be strengthened. The key declaration in this regard appears to be in verses 8 & 9: Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. The expression “rod of iron” refers to a staff of authority which many monarchs carry. This is why some translations use a more precise word “scepter.” Dashing the subdued enemy to pieces with this rod (scepter) symbolizes complete uncompromising domination. The scenario painted in...
