HOW TO TRULY RULE YOUR WORLD
Psalm 2 is a celebration of dominion. King David had gained dominion over the heathen nations around Israel, but these nations were beginning to make efforts to regain their freedom which would mean the return of attacks on Israel. In this Psalm, David presents the matter to God and receives assurances that the dominion which God had given him would not be compromised. In fact, it would be strengthened. The key declaration in this regard appears to be in verses 8 & 9:
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
The expression “rod of iron” refers to a staff of authority which many monarchs carry. This is why some translations use a more precise word “scepter.” Dashing the subdued enemy to pieces with this rod (scepter) symbolizes complete uncompromising domination.
The scenario painted in Psalm 2 is relevant to our Christian’s life today. We are saved to dominate our spiritual space, lord it over the devil and his agents, and be in charge of our destinies. But the devil always tries to shake off our rule over him. This is the explanation for all his antics (the hindrances, sicknesses, bad dreams etc).
We are supposed to (like King David) respond with force (the iron scepter). We have authority over scorpions, serpents, and all the works of the enemy. We should forcefully make this proclamation and stand (act) on it by faith.
However, there is something we have to know about this rod (scepter). It has a unique quality which we must not miss, and this is clearly presented in Hebrews 1.8:
But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
The point here is this: righteousness is the scepter of God’s kingdom. It is righteousness and not the mere ability to quote scriptures that grant spiritual authority over Satan. Membership of a faith proclaiming groovy assembly is not enough. The ultimate defence against the arrows of the enemy is the “breastplate of righteousness.” The unique dominion which Jesus enjoys by the power of his name was earned via righteousness. Take a close look at Heb. 1.9, which is a reference to how Jesus gained dominion. I have quoted from a simple translation to make this issue very clear:
You love what is right and hate what is wrong. That is why God, your God, has chosen you and has given you the joy of an honor far greater than he gave to your companions.
My encouragement to you is simple. Love what is right and hate what is wrong (by Bible standard). Do not to live in self deceit as many people do. They fornicate, steal from their employers, tell lies as freely as we breathe in air, falsify documents without blinking, and do all manner of despicable things. Yet, they go to church and claim scriptures. They are liars, and the devil only makes fun of them. As you read this, take a decision to let righteousness be your rod(scepter), then you can rule your world!
