Fake Churches and Real Churches in Nigeria: The Real Issue.
A pastor is caught with human body parts, another one is
reported to be sleeping with female congregants, while yet another is alleged
to have duped some members of huge sums. Maybe these align with what you hear
or your personal experiences, and you have probably concluded that all churches
are like that; you are thinking: “damn it, this Church thing is a scam.”
Let me tell you this straightaway, Church (real Church) is
not a scam. Groups that claim the Church identity, but are not really Church
are scam. That place where all they talk
about is breakthrough, prosperity, and money; that place where the pastors wear
rugged jeans, and are flashy, trendy, and full of swag; that place where the
prophet dresses more like a Hindu mystic, but claims to be able to solve all
problems; that place where the ‘gospel music’ sounds like P Square or Cardi B
music; that exciting swinging bobbling place you are attracted to is NOT
Church. It’s a Business Centre or a club house disguising as Church! That place
where an aunty took you to, so you may find out who is “doing” you; that place
where uncle asked you to go and pray for a future partner or for luck to get a
contract; that place where nobody asked if you were born again is not Church.
It is a modern Babalawo house, where the African tradition of consulting Spirits
is continuing, hiding under Church identity. That other flashy pastor with gold
necklace whose church choir makes you feel groovy, who is not bothered about
your mini skirt and off shoulder dresses is not running a Church. He is in
business. He wants your money
I want you to be
sincere here. Have you not noticed there are some Christian groups out there
whose members are called S.U.? They are “old school,” “not exciting,” lacking
swag, and (as you probably think) boring. They talk mainly about salvation of
the soul, heaven, rapture, sin, repentance and such stuff which you really don’t
want to hear. They are still out there, and you know it! The odds are that if
you see such people you will not love to be part of them. You rather choose to
point out their faults and call them names. Yet, you are attracted to mini
skirt and Gucci pastor places. THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM!
There is something in you attracting you to the social
pastor and his groovy place, and repelling you from the one who talks about
holiness and heaven. That thing is your problem! When you experience what Jesus
calls being “born again” you will change. In the meantime, you are not really a
Christian yet. However, because you have taken the time to read this, the mercy
of God will soon reach you. Congratulations!
You can reach out to me via wordnenigeria@gmail.com . We can talk about how you can truly become a
Christian and start following the Bible. You will then learn that the true
Church (as imperfect as the members are) is not a scam. It has its own issues
because it comprises of human beings who have their individual weaknesses,
fears and struggles, but It is your only chance of experiencing the Jesus of
the Bible.
