FIGHTING TEMPTATIONS (2)
I want to share with you how God taught me a crucial principle in dealing with temptations. May you be blessed as you read it.
Many years ago I had to travel from Lokoja to my duty post in a village called Osara. I was desperately in hurry, so I could not go to the car transport park. I simply flagged down a commercial vehicle along the main road. The driver warned me that he would have to stop at the park, and that he would tell the transport union official that I was not travelling out of town. He also told me to corroborate this lie by confirming it to the union officials. I felt that to support this lie would be a sin. At the same time I knew that to tell the truth would mean that the union people would force me to join another vehicle, and that could take ages to fill up. I would be late for my assignment and would have to face all the unpleasant consequences. I was truly caught between the rock and the hard place. As I thought about my options, I made up my mind not to tell the lie whatever the consequences would be.
When we got to the park, the union officials did not ask any questions; they simply asked the driver to continue his journey. Now, that was unusual, but God helped me to understand that this was divine intervention. The principle involved is simple: WHENEVER YOU ARE IN A TIGHT CORNER, RESOLVE NOT TO SIN, AND YOU WILL SEE THE HAND OF GOD CREATING A WAY OUT.
Just resolve to follow the path of holiness in the face of temptations to do wrong, and you will be surprised how things would turn out. This principle has always worked for me ever since. It has worked for everyone who has tried it. It will work for you too.
Do you know why Daniel and his Hebrew comrades experienced a great deliverance from temptation to compromise with unclean food? Simple: they were determined not to compromise while trusting God. Read Da. 1:8-9-
Dan 1:8 Daniel made up his mind not to let himself become ritually unclean by eating the food and drinking the wine of the royal court, so he asked Ashpenaz to help him,
Dan 1:9 and God made Ashpenaz sympathetic to Daniel.
The disposition of Ashpenaz was a miracle; it was God’s way out!
Even when you can’t imagine a way out of the fix, just tell God about it and RESOLVE not to sin even if the worst appears to be looming. You will see a miracle
